Is Disney trying to own everything?

Disney is a billion-dollar company, yet they still want to be worth more. When will it finally be enough for them? Write Owl reports

When watching a movie by 20th Century Fox, I was very surprised to find that they had changed their name to 20th Century. Nosey as I am. I did some digging to find out why they would remove such an iconic word from their name. I mean when I think of 20th Century Fox, I don’t know about you, but it’s the Fox part I remember the most. Who sits back and remembers the Century part? Not me.

After performing intense research like the amazing journalist, I am – one Google search – I found that Disney basically yeeted the’ Fox’ out of their name after gaining the rights to the company. Their excuse for making this decision was so that it was an obvious difference between what the company was and what it is now.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “So Disney owns 20th Century now, big whoop.” Firstly, I’d appreciated it if you didn’t sound so cynical and secondly yes, it is a big whoop. Over these past few years, Disney has been taking ownership over more and more business lately, as we have seen with Star Wars and Marvel.

I’ll admit upon finding out about Disney’s new rights to Stars Wars back in 2012, I was completely unfazed. Mainly because I don’t care too much for the franchise, but also because I hadn’t yet noticed their greedy nature of wanting everything. Now I know they owned the rights to Marvel back in 2009, but it wasn’t until I was walking past a Disney store in London around 2016 when I realised they were selling marvel superhero toys.

At first, I was highly confused so once I got home, I made it my priority to look into these strange phenomena. The only explanation I could come up with was that Marvel Studios was using Disney stores as a way of coverage for selling their toys. However, wouldn’t it be best to get Universal Studios to help with that? I mean they do have an entire Marvel section within their Florida theme park, not to mention they own the rights to use Marvel characters, and wouldn’t it be cheaper than paying a new entire new studio to do this?

You could tell I was trying to come up with everything under the sun besides taking into consideration that Disney took ownership of Marvel. Which I don’t know about you, but it is highly strange when I think about it. Whenever Iron Man comes to mind Disney is the last studio I’d ever think of.

So, I guess the question still stands, is Disney trying to own everything? But the answer to this is obvious. Yes. Is it because they are money hungry creeps? Probably. But can we judge them for that? At the end of the day, Disney is a business and if there is a way for them to expand their income and company brand, they’re going to take it. It still doesn’t change the fact that I hate what they did to 20th Century’s name. Disney threw my childhood out the window, kind of ironic to be honest. But look on the bright side, it means we have more variety over on Disney Plus!
